How Work Hours Are Calculated

Each shift duration is calculated by subtracting the start time from the end time. Break time is then deducted. Overnight shifts — where the end time is earlier than the start time — are automatically handled by adding 24 hours to the end time.

Total Hours = (End Time − Start Time) − Break Time

For example a shift from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM with a 30 minute break = 8 hours worked.

How Overtime Is Calculated

Overtime is automatically calculated when total hours exceed 8 hours in a single day (shifts mode) or 40 hours in a week (weekly mode). The overtime rate defaults to 1.5x your regular rate if no custom rate is entered — though overtime rules vary by country and employer.

Who Uses a Timesheet Calculator?

Timesheet calculators are used by employees tracking hours for payroll, freelancers calculating billable time, managers verifying staff hours, contractors tracking project time and anyone on an hourly rate who needs an accurate total.
