How Working Days Are Calculated

Working days are calculated by counting every day between the start and end date and removing weekends. If you add public holidays, those are removed too. The calculator checks each day individually to ensure accuracy regardless of how many weeks span the date range.

Formula
Working Days = Total Days โˆ’ Weekend Days โˆ’ Public Holidays
Example: 1 Jan to 31 Jan 2026 = 31 days โˆ’ 8 weekend days = 23 working days

Working Days vs Calendar Days

Calendar days count every day including weekends and public holidays. Working days count only the days people actually work โ€” typically Monday to Friday excluding bank holidays. Always clarify which is meant when dealing with contracts, deadlines and legal notices as the difference can be significant.

  • A 10 calendar day deadline starting Monday ends the following Wednesday
  • A 10 working day deadline starting Monday ends two weeks later on the Friday
  • Legal documents, employment contracts and financial agreements often specify working days โ€” check carefully
  • International working day counts differ as public holidays vary by country
