How Is Time Duration Calculated?
The calculator converts both times to minutes since midnight then subtracts the start from the end. If the end time is earlier than the start time it’s automatically treated as an overnight shift going into the next day. Break time is then deducted from the total.
Formula: Duration = End Time − Start Time − Break Time
Overnight Shifts Are Handled Automatically
If your end time is earlier than your start time — for example 22:00 to 06:00 — the calculator adds 24 hours to the end time so you get the correct 8 hour duration. This makes it perfect for night shifts, bar and restaurant staff, security and anyone working unusual hours.
