How to calculate the days until a date
The basic calculation is the difference between today's calendar date and your target date. CalcNest then turns that difference into additional planning information such as weeks, weekends, weekdays and countdown milestones.

What does a 45-day countdown actually mean?
Suppose your holiday begins 45 calendar days from today. The headline result is useful, but breaking that time down makes the countdown easier to understand and plan around.

The exact weekday and weekend totals depend on the dates involved, but the calendar duration can immediately be expressed in several useful ways.
Should today count as one of the days?
Two countdowns can sometimes differ by one day because they use different counting conventions. CalcNest makes the method explicit so you can choose the one that matches what you mean.
Standard countdown
Today is treated as day 0. If your target is tomorrow, the answer is 1 day until the target date.
Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday are the four days separating the dates.
Count both dates
Turn on inclusive counting when you want both today's date and the target date included in the total.
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday are all included.

The Mon–Fri figure in the calculator simply counts Monday through Friday. It does not remove public holidays. If you need a business or employment calculation, use the Working Days Calculator instead.
How does the live countdown handle time zones?
When you choose only a date, the live timer counts toward 12:00 AM at the beginning of that date using the time zone reported by your device. This means the countdown reaches zero when the target date begins where you are.
If you switch on an exact target time, CalcNest counts toward the date and time you entered using the same device time zone. For an event taking place somewhere in a different time zone, convert the event time to your local time before using an exact-time countdown.
Days until calculator FAQs
Subtract today's calendar date from the target date. CalcNest performs this calculation automatically and also shows the result in weeks, hours and a live days-hours-minutes-seconds countdown.
Not by default. Standard counting treats today as day 0. You can turn on “Count both dates” when you want today's date and the target date included in the total.
The most common reason is inclusive versus exclusive counting. One calculator may count today's date while another starts counting from the following day. Time zones and exact event times can also affect live countdowns.
Yes. The main result uses calendar days, so Saturdays and Sundays are included. The results also show how many actual weekends remain before a future target date.

CalcNest methodology
The Days Until Calculator uses calendar-date arithmetic for the headline day count and your browser's local date and time for the live countdown. Weekends are grouped as Saturday–Sunday weekend periods, while Mon–Fri days are counted individually. Public holidays are not removed. Date-only live countdowns use the start of the target date; exact-time countdowns use the time entered by the user.
