How to Use the Unit Price Calculator
Choose Single Product to calculate the price per unit of one item, or Compare Products to compare up to three products at once. Enter the total price and quantity for each product and click Calculate. The comparison mode ranks products from cheapest to most expensive per unit and shows your potential savings.
How Is Unit Price Calculated?
Unit price is calculated by dividing the total price by the quantity:
Unit Price = Total Price ÷ Quantity
For example a 500g product costing £2.50 has a unit price of £0.005 per gram or £0.50 per 100g. Use the same unit (grams, ml, oz) for all products when comparing to get accurate results.
Why Unit Price Matters
Supermarkets often display products in confusing sizes and pack formats making it hard to see which is genuinely better value. A larger pack is not always cheaper per unit. The unit price calculation removes the confusion — the lowest unit price is always the best value regardless of pack size.
FAQs
What is unit price?
Unit price is the cost per single unit of measurement — per gram, per ml, per oz or per individual item. It lets you compare products of different sizes on a like-for-like basis.
How do I compare products with different units?
Make sure both products use the same unit. If one is in grams and another in kilograms convert to the same unit first before entering quantities.
Is a larger pack always better value?
Not always — use the Compare Products mode to check. Supermarkets sometimes price larger packs at a higher unit cost especially on branded products.
Can I compare more than 3 products?
Currently the calculator supports up to 3 products simultaneously. For more products run two separate comparisons.
Is this calculator free?
Yes completely free with no sign-up needed.
