How Working Days Are Calculated
Working days are calculated by counting every day between the start and end date and removing weekends. If you add public holidays, those are removed too. The calculator checks each day individually to ensure accuracy regardless of how many weeks span the date range.

Working Days vs Calendar Days
Calendar days count every day including weekends and public holidays. Working days count only the days people actually work — typically Monday to Friday excluding bank holidays. Always clarify which is meant when dealing with contracts, deadlines and legal notices as the difference can be significant.

- A 10 working day deadline starting Monday ends two weeks later on the Friday

How do I add public holidays?
Enter holiday dates in the public holidays field using the format YYYY-MM-DD separated by commas. For example: 2026-12-25, 2026-12-26.
Is the end date included in the count?
By default yes — the end date is included. Untick the “Include end date” option if you want to exclude it.
What is the difference between working days and calendar days?
Calendar days count every day including weekends. Working days count only Monday to Friday excluding bank holidays. A 10 working day deadline is significantly longer than a 10 calendar day deadline.
How many working days are in a year?
A standard working year has approximately 260 working days (52 weeks × 5 days), minus public holidays. In the UK this is typically 252 working days after deducting 8 bank holidays.
