How to Use the Grade Calculator

Choose your mode.

Weighted Grade โ€” add each subject or assignment with its score percentage and how much it contributes to your final grade (weight).

Final Exam Needed โ€” enter your current grade, the weight of your final exam and your target grade to see exactly what score you need.

Letter Grade โ€” select a letter grade or enter a percentage to see where it sits on the grade scale.

How Weighted Grades Work

A weighted grade gives each assignment or subject a different level of importance. If your final exam is worth 40% and coursework is worth 60%, they aren’t equal โ€” the exam score matters less than the coursework. The calculator multiplies each score by its weight and divides by the total weight to give an accurate overall average.

Example: Coursework 75% (60% weight) + Exam 65% (40% weight) = (75ร—60 + 65ร—40) รท 100 = 71%

Grade Scale Reference

This calculator uses the standard US letter grade scale. A+ is 97-100%, A is 93-96%, B+ is 87-89% and so on down to F below 60%. The full scale is shown in the Letter Grade tab.

FAQs

A weighted grade accounts for the fact that some assignments contribute more to your final grade than others. The calculator multiplies each score by its weight to give an accurate overall percentage.

Use the Final Exam Needed tab. Enter your current grade, the percentage weight of the final exam and the overall grade you want to achieve. The calculator tells you exactly what score you need.

Generally an A (90%+) is excellent, B (80-89%) is good, C (70-79%) is average and anything below 60% is typically a failing grade depending on institution.
