Conversion calculators for everyday units
Convert measurements, speeds, time and other common units without working through conversion formulas yourself. Choose the tool you need, enter a value and get the converted result in seconds.
Measurements & units
Move between common measurement systems quickly when recipes, specifications or everyday tasks use different units.
Speed & movement
Compare speeds expressed in different units so values from travel, sport and technical information are easier to understand.
Time & everyday conversions
Turn time and other everyday values into the units you actually need without doing multiple calculation steps.
Different units. Same value.
Unit conversions can look complicated because the numbers change even though the underlying measurement does not. CalcNest handles the conversion factor for you and gives you the equivalent value in the unit you need.
How unit conversion works
Every conversion uses a relationship between two units. The calculator applies that relationship automatically so you only need to provide the starting value.
Choose what you're converting
Open the calculator for the measurement or unit you need, such as speed, length, time or another everyday conversion.
Enter the starting value
Make sure the number is entered using the correct original unit. The calculator then applies the required conversion factor.
Use the converted result
Read the equivalent value in the new unit and check the unit label and decimal precision if you're using the result for technical work.
Conversion results may be rounded to make them easier to read. For technical, scientific or professional work, check the required precision and avoid rounding intermediate values too early in a calculation.
Conversion calculator FAQs
Quick answers about converting units and measurements.
Are CalcNest conversion calculators free?
Yes. CalcNest conversion calculators are free to use and do not require an account or sign-up.
How does a unit conversion calculator work?
A unit converter applies the mathematical relationship between two units. It takes the value you enter, applies the appropriate conversion factor and displays the equivalent value in the target unit.
Why does the number change when the measurement is the same?
Different units use different scales. For example, one metre and 100 centimetres describe the same length even though the numerical values are different.
What is the difference between metric and imperial units?
The metric system uses units such as metres, kilometres, grams and litres and is based largely on powers of ten. Imperial and US customary measurements use units such as inches, feet, miles and pounds. Some similarly named units can also differ between systems.
Why are some converted results shown with decimals?
Many units do not convert into exact whole numbers. Decimal places allow the calculator to show a closer equivalent value instead of rounding everything to a whole number.
Should I round a converted measurement?
That depends on how the result will be used. Everyday conversions often need only a few decimal places, while scientific, engineering or other technical work may require greater precision.
